The Marion County Chapter of American Red Cross will conduct a training class – CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer – Tuesday, February 9^th. The skills covered in this class lead to certification that is typically required of lifeguards, first responders, healthcare professionals and others whose job responsibilities include administering lifesaving procedures in emergency situations. This class also provides a comprehensive review for individuals seeking recertification. 

Training will take place at Marion ’s Alber Red Cross Center, 1849 Summerset Drive. Hours of instruction will be 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. with a break for lunch. Class size is limited to six participants and pre-registration is required. Several slots for students are currently available. 

The fee of $53.83 covers instruction, a current manual and tax. The fee must be pre-paid, unless the employer has an account with the Chapter. Participants may sign up and pay fees in person at the Alber Red Cross Center on weekdays between 8:30 a.m. and noon or between 1 p.m. and 4 p.m. During the same hours, students may register by phone and pay with a major credit card. Community assistance may be available to defray some of the cost, depending on financial need. The local Chapter offers a discount to students who register for both this course and Standard First Aid. For complete details, call the Red Cross at (740) 725-9141. 

The Marion Chapter offers this class twice annually. The next session will be Tuesday, August 10^th, 2010. 

In addition to its health and safety training and education programs, the Red Cross collects, processes and distributes blood products. The Red Cross also provides emergency assistance to members of the US armed forces and their families. Plus – with support from United Way of Marion County – Marion County ’s Red Cross Chapter engages in local disaster planning, prevention and response.
