How I Live United

Kerr_Web_-_Small.JPG

My Name is Kerr.

Volunteering has become a way of life since my retirement in 2001. Volunteering with various non-profits, like Habitat for Humanity and our church youth group allows me the opportunity to improve life for those who are less fortunate. And as a bonus, I get to spend quality time with people I love and care about.

I Don't Just Wear The Shirt,

I Live It!

Community Investment

Raising funds simply gives us tools to effect the changes our donors and volunteers wish to see in the community. Our primary aim is to make the most of the resources contributors entrust to us.

There are many worthwhile and competing causes in the Marion area. Needs always seem greater than funds available to meet them. A panel of United Way volunteers — the Community Investment Committee — reviews individual program costs and benefits with each of our agency partners, weighs competing requests and recommends how to divide up contributions to achieve the greatest impact. This recommendation serves as the basis for our annual campaign goal and outlines how proceeds from the fund drive will be used in the coming year.

Note that, since each local United Way is separately incorporated and operates independently of other United Ways, the programs and Agency Partners receiving funding vary from one community to the next, reflecting differing needs and priorities.

If you have questions concerning the agency investments process or the nature of the programs United Way of Marion County provides funding for, please contact our office at (740) 383-3108.
