How I Live United

Kerr_Web_-_Small.JPG

My Name is Kerr.

Volunteering has become a way of life since my retirement in 2001. Volunteering with various non-profits, like Habitat for Humanity and our church youth group allows me the opportunity to improve life for those who are less fortunate. And as a bonus, I get to spend quality time with people I love and care about.

I Live It!

Giving Guidelines

According to the most recent census, 66,217 people call Marion County home. However, only slightly more than 6,000 individuals and families made gifts to our campaign.

How much should you give? That’s a decision you have to make for yourself, based on your resources, obligations and priorities. The 2008 campaign goal of $1,125,000.00 represents $16.98 for every Marion County resident. Obviously, not everyone is in a position to make a financial contribution, so we encourage anyone who lives or works here to consider the following:

Can you pledge $1 per week to help support more than 40 programs designed to improve the quality of life in Marion County? You’ll be helping make a real difference for less than the cost of one specialty coffee, one day a week.

If you can afford to do more, think about pledging the equivalent of one hour’s pay out of each paycheck or even one hour’s pay per month. Over the course of a year, those hours will add up to a truly significant gift.

Every contribution, regardless of the amount, will help make a difference. Empty your change jar or hold a yard sale and give a portion of the money to United Way. Consider making a gift of shares of stock or mutual funds. Encourage your child to share part of his or her allowance. Organizations may contact the United Way office for campaign fundraising ideas.

* For gifts of $25 or more.
